Annually at the CUS Awards Night, the CUS Sustainability Committee recognizes one CUS event or CUS affiliated club that has made significant efforts in green initiatives and has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability leadership.
Criteria
In order to qualify for this award, applicants must:
- Be a CUS event under the CUS Service Council, or as a CUS affiliated club
- Meet some of the criteria listed below
Venue
- Location of venue close to public transit
- Event held in a green building (e.g. LEED certified, hotels with Green Key rating)
- Extra: used green energy provider (e.g. Bullfrog Power)
Marketing
- Used social media to advertise
- Gave away sustainably-sourced, quality swag as much as possible
- Paper use reduction plan in place
Waste management
- Provided recycling for paper and plastics
- Reusing materials from past event, or for future event
- Sustainable speaker gifts
Catering (if your event served food)
- Provided compost bin
- Catering company/where you bought food from: use local or organic ingredients
- Used reusable or biodegradable cutlery, dishware
Education
- Event included discussion on sustainability – this could include social, environmental, and economic sustainability
- Drew attention to event or club’s sustainability initiatives, if any
